The Age of Darkness

"The sky breathed down a pestilence.
Fish twisted and died in riverbeds that ran with poison.
Wells gave forth sickness like black blood from an oozing sore.
The earth became diseased like a rotting corpse,
sucking the life from crops and giving forth bloom
to deadly nightshade and burning mandrake root.
And everywhere men and beasts were struck down with plague
as if unto tall grass before a thresher's flail.
And the people cried out to the watchers above for surcease from their woes,
and they were not answered.
And so did The Age of Darkness sweep the Lands
under the roiling turmoil of the warring of the Gods above."
